collaborative work by Hannah Nelsen & Jacobien Wiersma, originally created for the exhibition " Pond Situation/ Common Waters" in 2023.

The 600cm x 170cm x 20cm high barrier is placed directly behind the entrance to the exhibition space and filled with an about 5cm deep layer of water. The long shape with the turquoise-blue color is designed in remembrance of a swimming pool, while the width of the object is just enough to be unable to jump over.

placed right behind the entrance to the space the barrier forces the visitors to engage with the room in an performative act, crossing the water in their own way and leaving their vanishing traces around the exhibition space. The act of walking through water/washing feet is reminding of religious rituals, functioning as a catharsis or cleaning before entering the exhibition.
